Abbeystead March 2024

We had a glorious day on the Abbeystead Estate, looking at habitats and living things and asking scientific questions: problem, cause and solution. We went to the top of the moor and looked at the peat erosion caused by the weather, gulls and past over grazing. We looked at what the estate are doing to help. We then followed the river down looking at the widens and looked for little beasties that shows us that the water is clean. We looked at the erosion caused by the river. We went to find our curlew, Bella and saw lots of them (whether it was Bella, we don't know!). We looked at leaky dams and how this is helping flooding down stream. We then looked at the salmon steps that have been built to help the salmon migrate after the dam was built in the 1930s. Finally, we had  a look out at Jubilee Tower and discussed the barn entrance problem and looked at the data loggers. Each time, we mapped out our location.
