This week we visited a popular local e-bike business and found out about all the different types of bikes for hire and for sale, along with the repair work service available. Mr Wolstenholme was very impressed by all the children’s questions. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning and thank Mr Wolstenholme for being so welcoming.
Joyeux quatorze juillet! π«π· French Day π ππ
Activities included: singing French songs; listening to the story of le Petit Chaperon Rouge; playing French games; learning about the wonderful geography of France and compass directions en français; pretending to be street artists at Montmatre Paris, along with eating lots of delicious French food.
Our trip to two Manchester museums allowed children to get hands-on with their learning. At the Jewish Museum the children explored a synagogue and handled some religious objects. They enjoyed hunting for images and objects in the museum. At the end of the session they made short clips about their learning on tablets. At the Science & Industry Museum, children watched a Manchester inventions show and enjoyed time in the exploration section of the museum. Everyone had a fabulous day. It was also lovely to see the amazement on the younger children’s faces as they shouted out and pointed to ‘sky scrapers!’. A real contrast to our Dunsop Bridge surroundings.

Our pupil’s choice of themed week was: fairy tales, and what a glittery, sparkly and magical week it was. Many cross-curricular activities were linked to the theme and these were just some of them: castle construction competition using recycled materials; fairy themed yoga; gingerbread cooking; theatre and creating fairy tale characters in the forest using nature; wizardry scientific potions and les trois petits cochons. Please go to the photo gallery to view some images from the week.
Vicki Mathews, the Duchy of Lancaster Operations and Project Manager, visited Thorneyholme last week to spend time talking to the junior children about the fabulous art work they have created for the village hoardings. The junior children explained how much of their own time they had been spent on creating their 'works of art'. All of this would not have been possible without the time Mrs Janet Wells has given to the children; coming in to offer her support and expertise over the past several weeks. And all is not finished - some of the infant children are drawing and painting little insects to be scattered around the junior work. All should be very proud of their artistic skills. Keep your eye out for their artwork in the centre of the village.
Love π our planet! Do not trash it! Pupils, staff, parents, a grandparent, governor and Duchy representatives, Lydia Richards and James Pyrah, all gathered together today to clean Dunsop Bridge by litter picking within the village. The school annually picks up litter, and this year was special, as we picked up litter in honour of the Coronation of King Charles III and as part of Laudatory Si’. It was a hugely successful event and pupils received many thumbs up from passing traffic. Let’s hope the message spreads: please keep our planet clean!
Today we had a scrumptious ‘royal’ teddy bears’ picnic in the sunshine with Dunsop Village playgroup. Our picnic treat was in celebration of the coronation of King Charles III.
Congratulations to our Year 6 superstars who have just finished their week of National SATS tests. One of the highlights of their week has been their special breakfast mornings! Food chosen by themselves and loving prepared by our Governor Mrs Janet Wells. The French toast was ‘très,très bon’. ππ₯βοΈ
