Thorneyholme Roman Catholic Primary School

Rights Respecting School (UNICEF)

Thorneyholme is delighted to be recognised as a being a SILVER Rights Aware school by UNICEF. The Silver Award acknowledges that our school community is fully aware of the articles enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN CRC) and that these articles are reflected in the school's ethos, practice and environment.

The voice of the children is given high status in the school because it is their right to
have a say in all matters that affect them. The children understand democratic
processes and are confident that their views and ideas are taken seriously by all
adults in their school.

There is a clear commitment to international awareness and global citizenship at
Thorneyholme, and the children understand that their actions can make a difference
in the world and can help to support the rights of others locally and globally.

What is a Rights Respecting School?

UNICEF works with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. The Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.
