Children delighted parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends as they lit up Thorneyholme’s stage with their talented performances!  Acts included: playing the piano; dances choreographed with gymnastic moves; singing modern and traditional songs; comedy acts and much more.

In 1st place was a comedy poetry rendition (Arthur, Sophie & Tilly), in 2nd place was a pianist (Helena) and in 3rd place was a singer (Henry).

A massive well done to all the children for displaying courage, confidence and for showing off their amazing talents.

  • Stonyhurst Physics Fair

    Mon 26 Jun 2017

Years 5 & 6 had a wonderful day at Stonyhurst College and St Mary’s Hall.

In the morning at Stonyhurst College, they learnt about chemical reactions and how gas can make a very small canister explode.  Following this, they watched rocket launching, which was fired from electricity and released its own parachute when descending.  One of the teachers gave a presentation about gravity and how people move and live in space with zero gravity.

In the afternoon, the children went to St Mary’s Hall theatre to watch a very entertaining production of Bugsy Malone.

  • First Holy Communion

    Sun 04 Jun 2017

On Sunday 4th June 2017, some of our children in Year 3 made their first Holy Communion.  This is such a special celebration in their journey of faith and they had a wonderful day, supported by their families, fellow pupils, parishioners, staff and governors.  They have spent several months preparing for their First Sacraments, supported by Mrs Jackson.

We hope that with the support of their families, they will attend Mass regularly and deepen their Faith.

  • Salford Diocese Prayer Competition Winner

    Thu 01 Jun 2017

Helena in Year 6 was one of 5 winners of the Salford Diocese vocations prayer competition!

Helena had to write a prayer for all Bishops and her prayer was chosen out of all the local Catholic primary schools who entered the competition in our Deanery – St John Southworth. In fact, Bishop Arnold, chose her prayer himself! Helena, Madeleine and their families were very fortunate to be invited to the Bishop’s House, Wardley Hall, for lunch and for the formal presentation of certificates.

    HELENA’S PRAYER

    Father in Heaven,

Please can you help all the bishops to make the right decisions and use the knowledge of God in what they say and do.  To be brave in meetings, to make the people of their dioceses happier and thankful for the life God has given them.  I hope that they shepherd us all through life and care for us all.

    Amen

  • Synagogue Visit

    Fri 12 May 2017
The juniors enjoyed a very informative visit to Lytham-St-Anne’s traditional Synagogue.  They enthusiastically listened to a Rabbi telling them all about the Jewish faith and explaining what they could see around them in the Synagogue, including: the star of David, scrolls, Hebrew writing, a Menorah, a yad and the Bima.  It was interesting for them to compare the Jewish religion to their own and they enjoyed hearing about the 5 books of the Old Testament, which they are familiar with.  Children asked many questions!  Towards the end of the visit, they even enjoyed tasting some homemade Jewish biscuits!
