  • World Book Day

    Thu 02 Mar 2017

What brilliant book fun we all had on World Book Day!

The hall was full of parents and family members; watching and participating in our World Book Day Assembly. Quotes from a variety of children’s book were read from children across all the year groups, some of the parents presented their favourite books and showed how fun it can be to read with children when they read their favourite parts out loud, children showed off their character fancy dress costumes (from Thomas the Tank Engine to Mr Stink!) on the ‘cat walk’ and an adult versus children book quiz was highly entertaining.  Guess who won?  The children of course!

Amongst all the fun reading activities during the day, the children participated in a Book Box Quiz.  Old shoe boxes were decorated by children and the clues of a book were put inside for the others to guess.  At the very end of the day, books were recycled and the love of reading was shared when the school held a book swap event.

Thank you to all the parents and family members who supported the event, without you we would not have had so much fun spreading the love of reading!

  • Ash Wednesday Mass

    Wed 01 Mar 2017
Children had chance to reflect on the meaning of Ash Wednesday at Mass; particularly the need to be sorry for their sins, as Monsignor Corcoran said, ‘Repent and believe in the Gospel’.   The adults in the congregation were reminded that we our lives on Earth are not eternal. “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return”.
  • KS1 Trip to Holden Clough Nursery

    Mon 20 Feb 2017

The first day back, 20th February 2017, found Class 1 starting their ‘Growth and Green Fingers’ topic at Holden Clough Nursery. Children learnt how to plant broad beans and chives properly! They all had their own pots, which they labelled, filled with compost, planted and watered. After juice in a glass welly, children braved the rain and went to look at some of the garden plants for sale. They identified a few and took photographs. After that. it was back into the cafe for a delicious cupcake served in a flowerpot!

Back at school, Class 1 are now caring for their seeds and have made the photos taken into dominoes, so that they can learn the names and identify the plants they saw at the nursery.

All the staff and children would like to thank Holden Clough Nursery for a great morning and for inspiring everyone,  at the start of their new topic ‘Growth and Green Fingers’.

  • Townley Hall KS1 History Trip

    Mon 30 Jan 2017

Class 1 went on a history and art trip to Townely Hall, Burnley on Monday 30th January.

We had a hands-on session looking at how toys have changed since our grandparents time. We played with a dolls house that didn’t have a bathroom! We also played blow football, walked on stilts. played jacks and had a go on an old push car. After lunch we were given access to the hall where we looked at the painting of Kettledrum and looked at portraits. We had a go at sketching a famous painting by Woodhouse called ‘Destiny’.

Thank you to Miss Burch who volunteered and helped us for the day and Mike, the Museum Guide, who made our trip informative and fun!
