A massive thank you once again to the FOTS, (our PTA group) who treated the children to a day of outdoor adventure at Waddow Hall. All children had a fabulous time and it was great to see all the team work which was going on throughout the day! The children's behaviour was impeccable and the weather did not dampen any spirits.

Year 5 & Year 6 spent the morning at St Mary & St Joseph's RC Primary School, Blackburn. With over 170 children, the school was enormously different to ours! After a tour of the 3 storey school, our children joined the classes to do some maths challenges and help edit children's writing. Following break, Zeus, the Ancient Greek God, came to answer children's questions in their amazing 4D room!
Madeleine - I liked the design of their new library and how the school was very welcoming. I do however, prefer the small, family size of our own school.
Joe - I thought the children were friendly and the 4D room was 'cool' but I much prefer little schools to big ones.
Both the schools of St Mary's Chipping and Thorneyholme joined together to celebrate the feast of St Peter & St Paul. Children from both schools, read out the Readings of the mass, wrote their own bidding prayers and took up the offertory. It was a beautiful celebration and it was lovely to see some familiar faces from St Hubert's parish church there too. Following mass, the children enjoyed lunchtime together outdoors and later, spent some quality time getting to know one another, through team games.
Pupils enjoyed a morning of challenging scientific activities at Stonyhurst college. A large rocket was launched outside on the green and pupils had the opportunity to launch their own mini-rockets using water and alka seltzer in the classroom laboratory. Astronomy was discussed in the Observatory, pupils had the opportunity to use Ipads to look at 3D Space crafts and they had to match different textured chocolates to descriptions of meteorites and rocks. Following an exciting morning, the pupils watched a performance of West Side Story, by Year 7 & Year 8 pupils at St Mary's Hall.
World Cup Fever was in the air, as the children took to the school field for Sports Day! Teams Brazil, France and New Zealand battled it out to win the most points. Archery, discus, javelin, the egg & spoon race and the water & sponge race were just some of the challenges the teams faced. In the end, the results were very close but Team BRAZIL were the ultimate winners! Well done to all our teams, everybody had a fun afternoon.
Children were placed under arrest on Wednesday lunchtime by PC Jonathan Scorah. With the police van on the school yard, children were put in the back and shown the different equipment he carries including handcuffs! Many thanks to PC Scorah for giving up some of his time to be with our children.
