The fun food afternoon was a real success, thank you to all the parents and family members who were able to attend. The junior children were responsible for a range of food activities set out in the hall, such as the Eatwell Plate, Biblical Foods, Dewlay Cheese Tasting, Food Art, Seed Patterns and Parlez-vous francais? Both the parents and children enjoyed all the activities, with some even becoming quite competitive!
The junior children were invited by a school Governor, to visit Stonyhurst College for a Sherlock Holmes guided tour. At the beginning of the tour, children were told the history of Stonyhurst itself and they were particulary interested in the history of the hiding places for priests, within the building, during the reign of King Henry VIII. Children were lucky enough to be shown many historical features of the building, including the archives and manuscripts. During the second half of the tour, it was explained how Sherlock Holme’s author – Arthur Doyle – was educated at Stonyhurst and how parts of the writing within one of his famous stories, (the Hound of the Baskervilles) is linked to the college itself!
Children had a wonderful time at the Dewlay Cheese Factory in Garstang. There they learnt how to make cheese (the different processes) and they even helped make a small quantity. From the viewing gallery, children watched employees making cheese in the factory itself. They saw a Kosher Representative from the Jewish Community overseeing production of Kosher cheese. Before the end of the visit, children tasted different cheeses which included Lancashire, Cheddar and Red Leicester cheese.
Children, staff and some parent helpers picked litter around Dunsop Bridge Village in support of the Nation's campaign to Clean for the Queen. Thank you for all your efforts!
