    Thu 28 Feb 2019

Thorneyholme is recognised as a being a SILVER Rights Aware school by UNICEF. The Silver Award acknowledges that our school community is fully aware of the articles enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN CRC) and that these articles are reflected in the school's ethos, practice and environment.

'Opportunities for effective pupil participation and engagement are extensive at Thorneyholme.
The voice and participation of the pupils is taken seriously by adults across the school.
Inclusion and the celebration of diversity are key features of the school.
Children and adults described very positive and mutually respectful relationships across the school.
Numerous structures are in place to promote mental health as well as physical wellbeing.
The children have regular and well planned access to current news which becomes a stimulus for discussion and action.'

What is a Rights Respecting School?

UNICEF works with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. The Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.

  • SAFER INTERNET DAY - Our Internet, our choice. Understanding consent in a digital world

    Tue 05 Feb 2019

Safer Internet Day 2019 was celebrated globally on Tuesday 5th February 2019 with the slogan “Together for a better internet”, the day provided a fantastic opportunity to engage with children about their digital lives.

Our day started with an assembly - thinking about what we love about the internet, how we can be kind and respectful to others online, and what we can do to keep ourselves safe when using it.

The rest of the day was spent on activities which will enabled the children to recognise how to make good choices online and exploring 'permission' - asking for and giving.

To help you talk to your children about having a positive and safe time online, there is a great pack that has been created for parents and carers, including conversation starters, a factsheet, family pledge card and more!
