  • READ FEST

    Thu 27 Sep 2018
On Wednesday 26th September, Year 4 spent the day at Bowley Scout and Activity Centre, taking part in the Lancashire Libraries Annual Read Fest.  Over 50 schools attended and 1000 children took part, meeting authors and celebrating reading. The day started with a visit to the ‘Silk Painting’ tent hosted by Ursula Hurst, here the pupils played their part in painting a huge mural, drawn on silk, celebrating the wonderful worlds’ experienced through stories and verse. The pupils were so engrossed in this wonderful calming activity, that they had to be enticed away with a visit to the bookshop! Once in the shop, the children thought very carefully on which book to purchase, taking on board the advice and suggestions from each other.  Our next stop was at the ‘Big Story Tree’ to listen to the storyteller Sue and the story of the ‘The Fox and the Sack’. The pupils took an active role in playing different roles in the story and using props to bring the characters alive. It then was a quick dash up the hill to the ‘Lodge’, where we listened to a very entertaining Paul Cookson reading some of his poetry, whilst illustrator Chris Riddell drew pictures bringing the poems alive.  A good day was had by all, from being outdoors and sharing the enjoyment and experiences of reading stories together.
  • BROWSHOLME HALL

    Wed 19 Sep 2018

Last week, the junior children enjoyed a trip to Browsholme Hall, as part of their history topic about the local area.  Children learnt about the history of the Parker Family, how portraits can tell you about the past, the differences between homes now and then and a timeline of some of the different artefacts.  On return to school, the children wrote TripAdvisor Reviews.  Samuel likened Browsholme Hall to an old, wonderful world with ancient artefacts and Madeleine thought it was a fabulous visit; the guides gave them all some very interesting historical facts!  Many thanks to Mr & Mrs Parker for allowing our children to 'invade' their home!
